Last weekend we headed up the canyon for the last trip of the summer. Usually you have to reserve a spot in this camp ground months ahead but in September its first come first serve so we made sure we arrived early. We got up there around 10am Thursday. After we set up camp we went for a walk. It was so nice & quiet up there. Hardly anyone had arrived yet and while we were out walking we found a new spot. It was perfect.
We ran back to camp and loaded up the trailer and while Jason hooked back up me and
Kenzie saved our spot. It was neat cuz it was tucked back in the trees and no other spots were near by it. Funny after all these years we had never noticed it. I think it is because the spot is so hidden you can't really see back there when someone is in it.
There wasn't really anyone behind us either. They were a ways down. So at night it made me a little nervous. Wondering what was lurking in the darkness. In our other spot I knew what was in every direction around us. Over here there was just the forest. And they had signs posted all over up there about the bears. To be aware. We've learned you can't leave anything out up there at night or the Raccoons come in and destroy everything. We didn't hear them at all this year. I took this picture sitting from our picnic table.
My dad (aka Papa) built a trap when me and my brother were little that we took camping. It's completely harmless. We trap them and let them go. It's fun to see the chipmunks and squirrels up close. The love peanut butter. Just stick a little in the back of the cage and they come a running! We caught a lot this time.
There's a creek that runs through up there. Here's a great idea, keep the kid in the stroller. Haaaa no worries! She loved it to.
She could even bend over and touch the water. Maddie brought her water shoes and and fun running around in the freezing cold water.
We take a picture on the "Big Rock" every time we go up there. It's tradition. We have pictures of Jake & Erek doing the same thing when they were this age.
Alex is always so much more calm up there. He sleeps more in the day.... Too bad he didn't cooperate during the night.
As you can see here Kenzie is in daze. Yeah, from lack of sleep. Between her and Alex it was rough. And all 3 of the kids don't sleep in past 7am!
Can you even believe how big Maddie is? She's our camping girl. We do need to get her out and see other things though. Next year is going to be a lot of new adventures in different areas. We are going to got Disneyland and Yellowstone. Should be fun to try something new.
